May's Postcard of the Month
Blossoms.
Yes, this IS quite similar to May's postcard of 2 years ago!
I couldn't help it - I just really needed to use these colors again.
So then I played with a few configurations:
And I am quite enamored of/with (??) Japanese renderings of trees in blossom
Thus:
But, I decided not to go in that direction, and instead ended up with:
And then:
because I had these little birds that I thought I'd like to use:
I'd found them in a books of 'Scraps' that my mother had given me years ago:
And I thought I'd also like to incorporate some of these blossoms:
from this old postcard:
But, neither the birds nor these blossoms seemed to work in the end.
I had this very cool piece of wooden picture-framing, with a Dogwood blossom:
that I've been itching to use to print.
After a bit of trial an error, I realized that the only good way to get a smooth imprint from this carving would be to pre-print - on white rice paper:
before the cards got warped and layered.

Step 1 - Heat-treated the print, but still had trepidations
(unwarranted, as it happily turned out) re: wet glue making the ink run.
Step 2 - This music paper wrinkles as soon as it gets wet, though it didn't really matter...
Step 3 - I covered it with the clipping off the r. side of the rice paper print.

Step 7 - A new fiber-y 'lace' paper that I'm liking using. Maybe too much (see Step 24)...

Step 24 - But then I had to go and add some more of that fiber-y 'lace' paper...
